So we’ve all survived the holidays, yay.
My daughter’s birthday, yesterday, was so much fun! She ended up having a couple of friends there. They had fun running around playing the games, bumper cars, and even got to climb the rock wall! The pizza was good – even though the kids really didn’t want to eat, they were too interested in games. And the cake I made was a big success!
My daughter made out like a bandit with Christmas and then three days later, a birthday. I had spent an entire day before Christmas cleaning out her room to make room for new toys. So much for that! She got several new board games, which the game shelf is full! And she got a cool race car track, which is too big to just simply hide it.
So now we’re all counting down until the new year. It is time to start making new year resolutions. Of course the typical one will to be to lose weight. But what else?
What about careers? I used to think I had my whole life planned out. I had wanted to be a veterinarian ever since I was four-years-old. Then decided to focus on equine medicine. I even entered college as a pre-med major. But I quickly changed majors. Then by accident I got into photography. Really thought that was the path for me. And trust me, if money was not an issue I would still be doing photography. But right now it really is just my expensive hobby. Now I really feel like I am finally going the right direction with pursuing a career in teaching.
So just to get everyone to thinking: If money was not an issue, what would be your three dream careers? And why?
For me:
1. Teaching. I really would love to specialize in special education – especially hearing-impaired elementary students.
2. Photography. I know with today’s technology everyone is a photographer. But I do enjoy photography and if I really did not need money I would be happy doing photography 24/7. My favorite subjects: babies.
3. Novelist. Pretty self-explained. But wouldn’t it be wonderful to write the next great American novel.
Okay, so now that we have are creative juices flowing a little. What are three ways you would love to change the world – and for the fun of it, let’s once again pretend money is not an issue.
For me:
1. I would adopt a child. I really would love to have another child. But don’t know about going through pregnancy again and trying to finish school and work and take care of my daughter. But it may not be a major change for the world itself, but you know for that one child it would be a big difference.
2. I would create a scholarship foundation. I was the first in my family to graduate from college and now going to graduate school. I really plan on my daughter to continue her education, and I have already opened a savings account for her to use to go to college. I do not want her to miss out on going to a fantastic school because money was an issue. So I would love to create a scholarship for a local student. I would make the requirements: have a 3.5 or better GPA; be involved in extracurricular activities for the entire four years of high school; non-school activities (4-H would be emphasised); volunteering (at least 500 hours for their high school career); they would be required to participate in a study abroad program; and I would require an essay. Okay, I know you’re thinking ‘wow, that’s a lot of requirements for one little scholarship.’ But all of the requirements are encouraging students to better themselves in one way or another, plus all of the requirements would help them, not only to get into a good school but it all would look great on a resume.
3. I would donate to local animal shelters. I have two rescue cats. And knowing me, even though two cats are more than enough, if I find another cat dumped in town or something I will probably bring it home too. But I would love to help an animal shelter – a no-kill shelter especially. Don’t know how many of you heard about Scruffy’s story but that was heartbreaking. And things like that should not happen, ever.
And finally, let’s think about our bucket list. What is something that would want to add to your bucket list? Maybe 2012 will be the year you get to scratch it off that list!!
1. I want to see all 50 states. And I don’t mean just drive through them, I would like to experience each state.
2. I want to take the test, and hopefully, go on Jeopardy. I may not be Ken Jennings smart, but I would like to see how I do.
So hopefully we all have our resolutions planned out. Let’s get ready to say ‘goodbye’ to 2011 and ‘hello’ to 2012. Let’s remember to eat our black-eyed peas and salt meat.
